#41: Curve Your Enthusiasm
Look, I agree that people behaving in a fake manner isn’t ideal. But I would really love to track down the person who said this and ask them what their preferred alternative is: everyone goes around all glum and depressed all the time because attempting to put on a good face or smile through being sad is, according to this person, deserving of our moral outrage?
Plus, this person is utterly convinced that they have the ability to tell when someone’s enthusiasm is fake. But what if they have no idea what they’re talking about and the person is genuinely enthusiastic? I guess telling someone that their enthusiasm is fake and that they should feel bad is certainly a quick way make sure that they are feeling bad… or at least that they now feel bad.
