The Nissan S-Cargo, punningly named for ‘Small Cargo’ and its snail-like appearance, was deemed one of the world’s ugliest cars. Premiered at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show, its odd, short, and rounded design could only be acquired via reservation.

Despite its peculiar shape, which contributed to its divisive reception and sometimes awkward maneuverability, the S-Cargo performed decently on the road. Its mechanical reliability stood in stark contrast to its controversial aesthetics.
