In a world where most things are expensive, manners don’t cost anything – or so the saying goes. If you’re planning to meet a friend for a nice, relaxed meal then it’s useful to be able to phone up your favorite restaurant and reserve a table. That way you don’t have to worry about there not being any available tables when you arrive, and you can just enjoy your time together. Not everyone seems to think that’s necessary, though.
