While I whole-heartedly agree that most people do not rely on logic when having discussions, I just don’t know if these people are aware that this is the case. Most people think they are arguing logically but are really just bending the logic in order to fit their emotional positions.

And thus if you try to argue back with logic, they won’t actually back down but will rather sink their boots in further. In my experience, a better approach is to try and target the emotional core of what they’re saying in order to make them realize what is actually motivating them.
