#34: The Importance of Conversation Primers
My wife does this thing where if she has something to tell me that she knows will make me angry, she prefaces it with a little, “Don’t get angry but…” And honestly, it works every time because I don’t want to be the weakling who got angry. I want to be cool, calm and collected.

The value of primers in our conversations is really quite astounding. It can very easily shift a conversation from a lousy one to an effective one, yielding better results for the primer and the primed. Familiarity, love, calm, laughter – whatever foundations you want to build the conversation on, just lay them down verbally before you start.
