#3: George Washington (1789-1797)
The country’s first president is seen as really important because he had a strong sense of what was right and did a good job considering the times he lived in. Washington worked hard to get the Constitution in place because he thought the old way of doing things wasn’t working out.
He wasn’t happy to see the country split up into political groups by the end of his first term, so he did something pretty unusual for the time—he decided to step down after serving two terms as president, setting a new standard for future leaders.
