Moscow was Alex’s birthplace, but his early years were a crucible of challenges. In 1970, his family’s escape from the iron grip of the USSR led them to the United States, having to learn the ways of a new country. Within this tumultuous backdrop, Alex’s father, Sergei, held a deep affection for American music, amassing a treasure trove of vinyl records. It was a fateful day when 14-year-old Alex boldly dismantled Sergei’s cherished record player and skillfully pieced it back together that his parents realized their son harbored an extraordinary gift.
