22. Look Out for La Befana, the Christmas Witch
In Italian folklore, La Befana is a benevolent witch who brings gifts to children on Epiphany Eve, much like Santa Claus. Traditionally depicted as a cheerful hag flying on a broomstick, she enters homes via the chimney, leaving behind sweets and gifts. Befana, known for her hospitality, housed the Three Wise Men but initially declined to join their quest for the infant Jesus.

Regretting her decision, Befana set out to find him but never did. Hence, she continues her search to this day, rewarding good children with treats and the naughty ones with coal or onions, as she soars through the Italian skies each January.
