#36: The Car Calamity
People in the USA, if you didn’t know, are crazy about their cars. I don’t how much of it is a matter of Americans generally being able to afford cars, versus things being really spread out in a lot of parts of the country, versus car companies just being really influential. But in many parts of the country, people drive everywhere.

And that’s really hard to change. Walkable communities are totally possible and do exist in a lot of places in the USA, but in a lot of places, sprawling communities where cars are necessary are the norm, and it’s hard to convince people to get rid of what already exists and start something new.
